Hummingbird has associations with joy, beauty, and good luck. A legend from the Kwakwaka'wakw says that Dzunuk'wa (guardian of the mountains and Wild Woman of the Woods) loved this little bird so much that she let him nest in her hair. In return, the Hummingbird looked like jewelry pinned in her hair.
Francis Dick was born in 1959 in ‘Yalis (Alert Bay) into the Musga’makw Dzawada’enuxw Band of Kingcome Inlet. She is a descendant of the Kawadelakala (Supernatural Wolf), who shed his animal form to become the first of the Kingcome people. She is adept in Dzawada'enuxw art style.
